fitness update

Well, I guess its time to update you all on my progress on this thing.

So, I honestly did really good up until about day 15.  I would have rocked this challenge's socks off if I wasn't so consumed with school right now.  School is obviously first priority.  But, I am glad to say that I definitely worked out at times that I normally wouldn't have.  The days that I didn't work out was because when I wasn't at school or doing homework I would have much rather been laying in bed doing absolutely nothing.  I still have 3 days left in the challenge.  Tomorrow I'll be at the beach with Thomas for our 2 1/2 year anniversary.  I'll be walking a lot?  Ha.  Wednesday I have school all day, so working out is probably not going to happen.  Thursday, the last day, I will probably go to the gym in the morning.  I have finals next week, thank goodness.  By then my stress and the madness will be hopefully nonexistent.

It's definitely tough still being in school when everyone else is done WAY before you.  Motivation is hard to come by.

BUT!  I am so excited to work out this summer!  I already have so much that I want to do!  I'm playing in a little co-ed softball league with some girls from my work.  Have I ever played softball before?  Nope but I have a strong history of about 1 season of t-ball when I was four, so needless to say I'm feeling pretty confident.  Ha!  But hopefully it will be more about fun than anything else. :)  I also took a class with a different spin instructor at our gym that I LOVE.  She challenges me so much and I can't wait to take her class more when school is out and keep getting better at it.  I have a little schedule in my head for this summer of classes at the gym.  Hopefully work doesn't get in the way of that too much.

So here is my official tally for the 30 days of Fitness.  Some days I worked out for much longer than 30 minutes.  Spin classes are an hour.  Other days I counted work because I'm constantly moving at work walking around the restaurant which I figured was better than absolutely nothing and calories were most definitely burned from being on my feet for more than 4 hours.

Day 1:  Spin and Sculpting Class
Day 2:  Yoga
Day 3:  Shred
Day 4:  Spin
Day 5:  oops :/
Day 6:  Spin
Day 7:  Bike ride with Thomas
Day 8: Spin
Day 9: FAIL
Day 10:  Arms and Abs
Day 11:  Work
Day 12: Work and swam in the backyard...not laps or anything though.
Day 13: Spin
Day 14: Swam laps at the gym
Day 15: FAIL
Day 16: FAIL
Day 17: Work
Day 18: Work
Day 19: Bike ride with Thomas
Day 20: Spin
Day 21:  Big Test=Fail for working out
Day 22:  Spin
Day 23:  Cleaned? haha
Day 24: Spin
Day 25:  Work
Day 26:  Work
Day 27:  FAIL
Day 28:  Beach

So yeah basically downhill from day 15.  But I'm proud that I'm more active than I was.  So in my book, I'm a winner.

How did you do if you participated?  Am I as much of a failure as I feel I am? haha

workin on my fitness...

"...I blow kisses"

Oh, Fergie.  In case you didn't get my reference, listen to the song "Fergalicious".  I wish I was cool enough to have a song called "Cait-a-licious".  No?

Anywho.  My sister concocted a wonderful little challenge for us bloggers.  It started yesterday.  30 days of at least 30 minutes of exercise.  I read it and thought "Perfect!".  Back in January my mom and I joined one of our local gyms.  I have been good about going especially since we started taking spin classes.  Classes are my kind of work out.  I need loud music, someone to push me, people to compare myself against, and a challenge.  Spin class?  Check, check, check and check.  My mom and I go three times a week.  So here is where Miss Stephanie's challenge comes in...  I usually only work out on those days I go to spin class.  My goal for these 3o days is to continue what I'm doing, do more workouts on our Fitness on demand channel and maybe take other classes at our gym a little more out of my element.

Currently, I'm on day 2 and tonight I am doing some yoga courtesy of Fitness on demand.  Yesterday I had spin class for one hour and it was Wednesday so it was a double whammy.  A weights class after sculpting.  Today I would usually do nothing as far as exercising goes because after wednesdays' workouts I am SORE.  So I think that pushing myself tonight to do some lightweight yoga will be just the thing.  I also want to become a little more conscience of what I'm eating during these 30 days.  I want to break the fast food habit and eat mindfully, not out of convenience.

On another note...look what the wonderful Urban Outfitters sent me today :)

Curtains for my closet!!  Sorry for the crap quality...I took the picture with my laptop and the lighting in my room is horrible.  But I love these little curtains.  I got shams to match as well!  My only complaint...$36 for one panel.  And they are so THIN.  I probably could have made them myself for a lot less money, but I haven't sewn anything other than pointe shoes since 7th grade when I made a drawstring bag in home ec.

One more thing...I have made my decision as to where I will be finishing my undergraduate college education.

I'm pretty excited!  I'll be closer to my sister, at a school with a much better Business school, close to San Fran without actually being in the hectic city, and maybe actually get a bit of a college experience.  School starts August 24th over there.  Cal State Bakersfield doesn't get done with this quarter until June 12th...shortest summer ever :(.  But I'm pretty sure it will be worth it.

Well, time to go workout...don't forget to join us!  You can start up until the 9th.  Steph will be doing some sort of giveaway at the end!  Get motivated!

p.s.  Thank you blogger for not making me want to rip my eyes out while doing this post :)

because we all need reminders now and then...

Health:

  1.    Drink plenty of water.

  2.    Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a beggar.

  3.    Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants.

  4.    Live with the 3 E's -- Energy,  Enthusiasm, and Empathy.

  5.    Make time to practice meditation, yoga, and prayer.

  6.    Play more games.

  7.    Read more books than you did in 2008.

  8.    Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.

  9.    Sleep for 7 hours.

  10.  Take a 10-30 minutes walk every day. And while you walk, smile.

Personality:

  11.  Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

  12.  Don't have negative thoughts or things you cannot control.  Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.

  13.  Don't over do. Keep your limits.

  14.  Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

  15.  Don't waste your precious energy on gossip.

  16.  Dream more while you are awake.

  17.  Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

  18.  Forget issues of the past. Don't remind your partner with his/her mistakes of the past. That will ruin your present happiness.

  19.  Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. Don't hate others.

  20.  Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the present.

  21.  No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

  22.  Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away, like algebra class but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.

  23.  Smile and laugh more.

24.   You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

Society:

  25.  Call your family often.

  26.  Each day give something good to others.

  27.  Forgive everyone for everything.

  28.  Spend time with people over the age of 70 & under the age of 6.

  29.  Try to make at least three people smile each day.

  30.  What other people think of you is none of your business.

  31.  Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your family and friends will. Stay in touch.

another blogging hiatus...

i know, i know.  let's just face it.  i'm no dedicated blogger.  i'm a dedicated blog reader though.  i'm taking a new approach to blogging a la my sister and her new blog.  a laid back, share what i want to share, no matter how small, approach to blogging.  something i can handle.  i recently joined grace in small things so i'll post some of those and other things i feel like getting off my mind or sharing with all of you :).

tonight as i'm on the midst of finals...i have starting to compile my spring break to-do list.
  • clean this horrific room.  wash my sheets (ah, i love doing that), wash all of my clothes and put them all away, and declutter.  a spring cleaning of sorts.
  • spin, spin, spin.  i love spin class :)
  • go to the beach one day.
  • RELAX
next quarter i have the perfect schedule.  the earliest class i have is at 12:30 ONE day out of the week.  the rest of the days i start my school day at 3pm.  WOOT.  oh, and i have fridays free from school.  ah, amazing.  even more amazing, my last quarter at csub :)

goodnight all.

all dressed up

Miss Jessica from Classy in Philadelphia, one of my new favorite bloggers, did a wonderful post on all of the dresses she wore to dances and such.  I couldn't help but copy her idea because one of my favorite things about high school were, of course, the dances.

I didn't start going to high school dances until my junior year.  I didn't meet Thomas and start dating him until my senior year...therefore, my dates my junior year are intentionally left out :).  Thomas and I went to different schools, and because it was our senior year and we didn't want to miss out on our own dances.  We each took each other to our school's dances.  That's FOUR dances in one year, people.  But it made for lots of dresses, pictures and memories (er, and money spent).

So without further adieu...

p.s. Sorry if some of these pictures are huge.  I can't figure blogger out sometimes.

Junior year Formal 2006.  My favorite dress, ever.

Junior Prom 2006.

My Formal 2007.  2nd favorite dress.

Thomas's Formal 2007.  I borrowed this dress from a friend and I LOVED it.

Thomas's Senior Prom 2007.  Another borrowed dress that fit perfectly with their theme, Willy Wonka.

My Senior Prom 2007.  Um, I bought the dress for the shoes :)

my 2008 rundown

2008 was a milestone of a year.  I felt as if nothing truly exciting happened.  But as I start to reflect, a lot happened, I grew a lot, and I feel glad that this year is behind me.

Here's a list of the highlights and lowlights of my year.

Highlights:
-Got promoted at my job from a hostie to a server without even asking at my work.  This never happens in Tahoe Joe's land.  You usually have to do take-out for a few months so needless to say I was very shocked/honored that they asked me to serve.
-Cooked my first Valentine's Day dinner.
-Concerts galore!  Boyfriend's shows in town and out of town, Michael Buble, John Mayer and Colbie Caillat and Jack Johnson.  They were all memorable.
-Many beach trips.
-My birthday and my pretty beach cruiser.
-Becoming closer with some great work friends.
-Lake Tahoe with the family.
-Starting my blog! (even though we "were on a break" for awhile, haha)

Lowlights:
-Finding out the hard way who I can trust.
-Losing a lot of money because of above statement.
-Stressing about school.
-Fighting with the boyfriend (never fun).
-Realizing that I shouldn't settle for less than what I deserve and that I need to let people know that.

So what's to come in 2009 for me?  I'm not really sure.  I'm hoping and praying for some really good things.  2008 I feel was an off year for me.  I totally believe that how you spend your New Years is a prediction of how your year will turn up.  Things must be looking up!  2009 will brings lots of new things my way I can just feel it.  So, get ready 2009 because I'm ready for you!

On a completely off note, I start school Wednesday.  Even though I've been off since Thanksgiving, this break was not long enough.  On the bright side, NO MORE 8AM CLASSES!  Those are the devil.  Happy New Year everyone!  I hope you are feeling as good about 2009 as I am!
